Drop D for a 5 string bass?

I'm about to get my first 5 string bass. A couple songs my band plays
are in drop D, and I was wondering what the best method for this would
be. I'd think either

1) Drop the E string to D like I'd usually do
2) Raise the B string to D (but that might be too tight for the
string)
3) Do nothing and play 3rd fret on the B string to get a D

Normally I'd just do the 3rd option, but there's some strumming
patterns that I need an open low D for. Just looking for some
advice...thanks!
